Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I would like to talk about the head of council. That the free time of that community get at least one center where they do activities.

At firstly, I would like to talk about me how I used the center for me. I had to do that because that helps me get active by physical. Additional to friends which they all came together at that center where we enjoy doing activities that helps us grow together and make our health good.

At secondly, I went to local community where i would directly suggest them the people of that society really want to do something in their free time. Please make one good center of sports or a complex center where the humans of that community do in their free time to help grow their strength and become more good at health.

If you close that center trust that all of that human would go to zero at all things so don't close. I would humbly request you that.

Your Faithfully,

Asjaad Iqbal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development of ideas is quite limited and occasionally unclear. For instance, while you mention using the center for physical activity, the explanation of why it is important for the community is vague and repetitive. The final section regarding the effects of closure is also underdeveloped, relying on general statements like 'go to zero' rather than specific consequences. To improve, ensure each point is expanded with concrete examples or logical reasoning to better persuade the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed due to awkward phrasing and the misuse of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'At firstly' and 'At secondly' are non-standard and mechanical. Referencing is also unclear at times, particularly in the opening paragraph where the purpose of the letter is not immediately apparent. Improving the use of transition words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is quite limited and often repetitive, which hinders your ability to express complex ideas clearly. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'the humans of that community' and 'become more good at health'. These choices are not appropriate for a formal letter to a council. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise nouns and adjectives, and avoid translating directly from your native language, which often leads to unnatural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The letter contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the free time of that community get'), incorrect sentence structures ('I would like to talk about me how I used the center'), and misuse of prepositions and articles. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency would help improve your accuracy.
