Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well; i want to discuss with you we are really enjoy the use of local sports and leisure centre with my near and dear ones. As i go in the morning with my family member and do exercises, medication with them this thing really calm me. In the evening i prefer to play badminton with friends.

Moving further, i would also like to discuss the benefit that local community take from this centre as they come and sit in the groups and discuss their matter, laugh and spend quality time together. Most of the local member prefer to play cram and ludo.

I am really worried if this centre close then are local community become sad and there less chance to meet on daily basis in busy life. And this centre help them to stay fit otherwise they hardly involved in social activities.

your faithfully,

Manpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of the community benefits is brief, and the description of the effects of closure could be more detailed to fully explore the impact on local residents. To improve, try to expand on your points with more specific examples or consequences to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Moving further' and 'As i go', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical. The flow of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more naturally, and ensure that your referencing (e.g., 'this thing', 'this centre') is always clear and precise.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary such as 'sports and leisure centre', 'social activities', and 'quality time'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'medication' when you likely meant 'meditation', and 'cram' which is unclear. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on simple, everyday words. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and verbs that are specific to the context of community facilities and social interaction.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. These include issues with subject-verb agreement ('we are really enjoy'), incorrect pronoun usage ('i' should be capitalized), and tense inconsistencies ('if this centre close'). While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are noticeable and occur frequently. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and capitalization. Practising proofreading your work for these common errors will help you achieve greater accuracy.
