Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the centre is useful for 'physical and mental progress,' this could be expanded with more specific examples of activities. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a council, though the opening 'request you about' is slightly unnatural. To improve, ensure each point is fully elaborated with more descriptive detail to better persuade the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For example, you start several sentences with 'So,' or 'And,' which limits the flow of your writing. Additionally, some transitions are missing or awkward, such as the abrupt shift between discussing the location and the benefits for students. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'in addition to this') to connect your ideas more fluidly and logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate to convey your message, but it lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. You rely on basic descriptors like 'very useful' and 'very near.' There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'request you about' instead of 'write to you regarding' and 'suit for everyone' instead of 'suitable for everyone.' To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and less common vocabulary related to community services and urban planning. Expanding your range of adjectives and adverbs will help make your writing more expressive and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include incorrect verb forms ('go this centre'), missing articles ('at middle of our city'), and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters after a period. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors like articles and prepositions will significantly improve your accuracy.
