IELTS Writing Task 1 question
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
- give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
- explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
- describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes

Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to bring an important concern into your attention as I heard the news that community centre in my area is closing soon. None of the city residents are happy after this announcement.
The centre is the place where all the people go daily for distinct activities such as gym, swimming, pilates and many more. It is a platform for all the city residents to get along with each other.
Also, every other month the place is used to conduct many different kind of events related to different cultures which helps to spread more and more diversity among different religions.
I believe that the sports and leisure centre is also the main reason behind many individuals fitness. As we do not have any other gym or activity centre around our area, if the centre will be closed people will face many difficulties to find one.
I kindly request you to conduct a meeting with locals to discuss whether the centre should be closed or not, it will be appreciated.
