Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
As a member of the local community in your area,I am writing this letter to inform you regarding the importance of community centre which helps our society including myself in building strong as a community. Furthermore, the recreation centre near the block A, gives young adults, a platform to play sports and spend leisure time with friends and family. Addition to this, gives us the opportunity to be together under one roof so that we can spend quality time together.
For example, I have noticed children from different cultures plays football together this helps to build an environment where they can even learn the respect of different race, gender etc. Besides that, it provides strong communication between neighbours walking on sidewalks. Such places are an attraction for families and affect single child parents, their children can have friends to play. Moreover, a place can be used for special purposes such as social club can be used for small gatherings such as birthday party, new year party etc.
I would therefore propose not to close the public centre of our community welfare. We ensure you to keep the place clean and provide a proper maintenance of the society. We need this place continue to help each other in need to support.
Yours sincerely
Aradhna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain how you use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential effects of its closure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the effects on local people is a bit vague, focusing more on general social benefits rather than specific consequences of the closure. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more specific examples or logical consequences. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council, and your position is clear throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Addition to this', and 'For example'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used incorrectly, such as 'Addition to this' which should be 'In addition to this'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'single child parents' and the centre's closure could be more explicitly linked. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, but the flow could be improved with more varied and accurate linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'recreation centre', 'community welfare', and 'maintenance'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'inform you regarding the importance' (should be 'inform you of') and 'respect of different race' (should be 'respect for different races'). You also have some minor grammatical errors affecting word form, such as 'single child parents' instead of 'single parents'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there are missing articles ('the importance of community centre'), subject-verb agreement issues ('children... plays football'), and awkward phrasing ('helps our society including myself in building strong as a community'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some unnecessary commas and missing spaces after punctuation marks. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction to improve your score.
