Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

I am glad to share the experience and benefits of centre that is used by people of local community.

The leisure centre plays a vital role not only for playing but also for the betterment for our future.

Having this centre and sports, we can practice our sports without any disturbance and fear which helps us to improve our performance. additionlly, local people can get the benefit of the availibilty of sports which can save their money. Moreover, older people can do yoga and excercises, which is fruitful for the betterment of their health.

While, people can live without the availibilty of it yet, the negative effects of it cannot be neglected. As, youngesters spent their free time in sports and doing outdoor activities, they could not do these activities after closing. Consequensly, they will spend their free time on watching their phone which puts adverse impact on their health.Apart from this, older people also could not do exercises in open space. Significently, they will become more sick without doing excercises.

I am request and thankful of you if you will change your decision on closing centre and remain it open for us.

yours faithfully,

manveer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task prompt, covering how the centre is used, its importance to the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. The first bullet point is handled by mentioning how the writer and their friends practice sports, and older people do yoga and exercises. The second and third points are also clearly tackled through discussions on health benefits and teenagers spending too much time on phones. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, which places the response securely at Band 6. To reach a higher band, the writer should expand on specific personal examples rather than generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter demonstrates a generally coherent overall arrangement, utilizing some cohesive devices such as 'additionlly', 'Moreover', and 'Consequensly'. However, paragraphing is weak; the body paragraphs are crammed into large, dense blocks of text that mix distinct ideas together. Furthermore, spelling and mechanical errors in cohesive markers (e.g. 'additionlly', 'Significently') hinder smooth progression. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'negative effects of it'. Overall, the logical flow is somewhat mechanical, which aligns with the Band 5 descriptors, though the clear purpose of the letter keeps it closer to a solid Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, featuring some less common attempts such as 'betterment', 'fruitful', and 'adverse impact'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('availibilty', 'additionlly', 'youngesters', 'Consequensly', 'Significently', 'excercises') and instances of awkward collocation or word choice (e.g. 'remain it open'). While the meaning can still be understood, these noticeable errors and limited lexical range restrict the score to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and participial structures ('Having this centre and sports, we can practice...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring persistent errors in articles, prepositions, and verb patterns (e.g. 'benefit of the availibilty', 'spent their free time on watching', 'older people also could not do', 'I am request and thankful of you'). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with comma splices and incorrect comma placement. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 criteria well.
