Write a letter to the local council. In your letter

- explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
- describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter regarding your order to close the community centre.
I want to let you know our whole society really depend on this centre, especially the older people. They prefer to spend their evening in the centre where they exercise, meditate, and do yoga to keep themselves fit and healthy. Also, me and my friends loves to play tennis after attending our school.
This particular sports centre act as a beacon for our young as well as old generation.Young children prefer to play over here with there friends as there is a dedicated spot for their activities. Adults keep themselves ingreat shape with the help of gym facilities and old people like to walk or jog in the park.
If this centre is not open to the local public, it would be a really unwise decision as a number of known athletes has made a decorated career in various sports with the training they did in this centre. Also, it is a hotspot for senior citizens of our neighborhood and they get together over here an spend quality time together and have some discussions and debates during the evening time.
I hope you take my sincere request into serious consideration and make your decision accordingly.
Yours Sincerely,
Tom Smith.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate successfully covers all parts of the prompt. Details of how the centre is used are clearly provided, such as older people doing yoga and the writer playing tennis with friends. The importance of the centre for the community is highlighted through its role as a beacon for different generations and a hotspot for senior citizens. Furthermore, the possible effects of its closure are effectively described, including the loss of a training ground for athletes and the deprivation of social interaction for the elderly. All bullet points are adequately addressed and extended with relevant supporting ideas, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear logical organization with appropriate paragraphing. Each paragraph addresses a distinct aspect of the prompt, flowing reasonably well from personal use to community importance and finally to the consequences of closure. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Also', 'This particular sports centre', and 'If this centre is not open'. However, some referencing is slightly faulty, such as 'me and my friends loves' and minor transitional awkwardness. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the letter, justifying a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'beacon', 'hotspot', and 'decorated career'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, including 'our whole society really depend' (should be 'society depends' or 'community depends'), 'me and my friends loves' (grammatical error in vocabulary choice), and 'ingreat shape' (spacing error). Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly in Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If this centre is not open...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('our whole society... depend', 'me and my friends loves', 'a number of known athletes has'), punctuation slips, and spacing issues ('there friends', 'ingreat', 'an spend'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they persist across multiple sentences, restricting the grammar score to a Band 5.5.
