Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing about the great innovation created by the local council, with respect to the leisure park and its environ, which has positively improved the physical and mental health of residence of our beautiful community.
Furthermore, the center has improved the health and minds of residents in recent years, people engaging in sports like running, football competitions during weekends. Also, the local gym at the community center a way of keeping people fit. Recently, the community introduced children sport training program at the recreation area, which the kids enjoy meeting new friends.
The relaxation area in the community center is an historical area, handed over to us by our great grandparents. it is a key meeting point for singles to mingle. It also, serves as a local tourist area with its beautiful landscape and cultural arts on the walls. Considering humans health and mind, the recreation area in the city council has improved our health and mind with an exercise friendly environment.
However, we hear rumors that the leisure park will be replaced with an industry camp, this is not a good news and will affect the park users. this current change will deny children their annual get together program. it will restrict regular exercise, which will drastically affect the health of people living in the area.
In conclusion, I want to recommend a proper sensitization of the community residents, on the latest development. Therefore, providing a replacement park if possible.
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student has successfully covered all the required bullet points in the prompt. Details of how the centre is used are provided, such as running, football competitions, and children's training programs. The importance of the facility is explained through its health benefits and historical significance, and the possible effects of closure—such as the denial of annual events and restricted exercise—are clearly described. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council, maintaining a clear purpose throughout. Although some ideas like the historical aspect are a bit repetitive, all aspects of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to usage, importance, potential effects, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Also', and 'However', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated phrasing regarding health and minds. Paragraphing is mostly used appropriately, although paragraph three is quite dense. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional clunky transitions prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organization is coherent and easy to follow, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'physical and mental health', 'cultural arts', and 'exercise friendly environment'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'great innovation created by the local council' (when referring to an existing leisure park), 'residence' instead of 'residents', and 'industry camp' instead of 'industrial site'. Spelling errors like 'it' instead of 'It' at the beginning of sentences and missing capitalisation also occur. Despite these slips, communication is not impeded, which places this firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'people engaging in sports like running, football competitions during weekends' (missing verb) and 'this is not a good news and will affect the park users' ('news' is uncountable, and the sentence has a comma splice). Punctuation errors are frequent, particularly with lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences after periods. While some complex structures are successful, the frequency of errors places this at a Band 5.5.
