Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You successfully mention how you use the centre, specifically noting that you and your friends go there to play indoor volleyball and use the swimming pool. Furthermore, you explain why it is important by highlighting its role in keeping people healthy and fit, and you describe the negative effects of closure by pointing out that individuals would miss out on exercise, leading to stress and negative impacts on both physical and mental health. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and basic. To reach a higher band, the points could be extended with more specific examples or deeper explanation. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a clear overall progression, starting with a standard greeting, moving through the required bullet points, and concluding with an appropriate sign-off. Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct sections for the introduction, the body points, and the conclusion, although the transitions between sentences can feel slightly disjointed due to punctuation errors. Cohesive devices such as 'first and foremost' and 'secondly' are used to structure the arguments, though referencing is occasionally faulty, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'put effect on their physical'. Overall, the organization is coherent enough to guide the reader through the letter without confusion, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message about the sports and leisure centre. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'vital things', 'physical activities', and 'mental health'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'qualilty' instead of quality, 'healthly' instead of healthy, 'strees' instead of stress, and 'desicion' instead of decision. Additionally, phrases like 'put effect on' are unnatural collocations ('have an effect on' would be more appropriate). Because these errors do not impede overall communication but restrict precision, the lexical resource is best placed at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. For instance, you successfully use conditional structures like 'if this centre will be closed, then individuals could not do...'. However, this specific sentence contains a grammatical error in the condition ('will be closed' instead of 'is closed'). There are also frequent errors in punctuation and basic grammar, such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and in names ('me', 'first and foremost', 'Gurwinder singh'), run-on clauses linked by commas rather than proper conjunctions or full stops, and article omissions. While these errors are noticeable and cause some distraction, they rarely impede overall communication, supporting a Band 5.5 score.
