Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing to express my positive feelings towards community centre.

In recent years, computer games has become a matter of considerable concern in modern society. However, community centre plays important role in life to get rid off from hectic schedules, and to reduce excessive use of electronic gadgets to some extent.

In addition, my family and I go for bhangra classes twice a week that helps us to keep fit as fiddle.

Furthermore, my wife suggested one of our friends to join dance classes in centre. They are also happy to know about it, and going to join coming week.

I really want to appreciate you for this place as it provides several activities to local people, they do not need to worry about transportation system and weather.

I believe that, there are some deterimental effects if centre closes.

Firstly, individuals have to go to city for leisure activities so this will consume their time and money.

Secondly, they can not able to spend time with their friends.

I would love to request to that please keep adding more activities here, and society people wants to contribute for further development.

please do not hesitate if you really want any contribution from us.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Rajvir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You have successfully covered all the main points required by the prompt. You described how you and your family use the centre through bhangra classes and upcoming dance classes, explained its importance in reducing excessive gadget use and keeping fit, and described the potential negative effects of its closure, such as increased travel time and costs for local residents. The purpose of the letter is clear, and a polite, personal tone is maintained throughout. However, some ideas are slightly generalised or could be developed with a bit more depth to reach higher bands. Nonetheless, all bullet points are clearly addressed, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter is generally coherent and follows a logical structure starting with a standard opening, detailing personal use, explaining importance, describing effects of closure, and finishing with a polite request and sign-off. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'Firstly'. However, paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with many very short, single-sentence paragraphs that disrupt the natural flow of ideas. Cohesive referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'dance classes in centre' missing an article. Improving paragraph organisation and varying cohesive links will help elevate your score in this area.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general task, using functional phrases like 'express my positive feelings', 'hectic schedules', and idioms like 'keep fit as fiddle' (though slightly inaccurate without the article 'a'). There are some lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'computer games has become' (plural/singular agreement), 'get rid off from', and 'deterimental effects'. Spelling is generally good, but word choice occasionally lacks precision. To achieve a higher band, focus on more natural collocations and precise vocabulary usage without minor prepositional errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I really want to appreciate you for this place as it provides several activities...'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the letter, including subject-verb agreement issues ('computer games has', 'centre closes'), missing articles ('in centre', 'to city'), and awkward phrasing like 'they can not able to spend time'. While these errors do not severely impede communication and your meaning remains mostly clear, their frequency prevents you from achieving a higher band score. Working on article usage and complex sentence control will benefit your writing.
