Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you that how useful is the sport centre for us. My family and I were using this centre from the begining of this centre. We utilize this centre for all purpose to spend our leisure time as well as to do activities to stay engaged.
The sports and leisure activity plays a pivotal role in everyones' life. It acts as a stress booster activity for people and they feel fresh and rejuvenated after spending time at sports centre. It provide place for the people to spend some time after their hectic schedule. Childrens also get place to do some activity instead of spending time on devices.
If the centre would be close, people do not have place to do their sport activity in this area. It affects their physical as well as mental health and it start creating health problems such as obesity, hypertension and many more. while, kids get addicted to mobile phone if they do not have any activity centre.
I would like to hear back from you.
Thank you,
Miral

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all parts of the letter prompt, covering how you and your family use the centre, why it is important for the community, and the possible negative effects if it closes. Your opening details about using the centre since the beginning and spending leisure time establish a clear purpose. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed, such as the brief mention of health problems like 'hypertension and many more,' which would benefit from more extended support to reach a higher band. Overall, your message is clear and fulfils the functional requirements of a formal request letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a logical paragraph structure that moves appropriately from personal usage to community importance and finally to potential consequences. You use basic paragraphing well, and your letter opens and closes with standard formal letter conventions. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or simplistic, such as relying heavily on basic transitions or repetitive referencing like 'this centre' and 'this area.' To progress further, you could use a wider variety of cohesive devices and more sophisticated referencing to link your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating some less common phrases like 'pivotal role,' 'stress booster,' and 'hectic schedule.' However, there are noticeable word-choice and word-form errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing 'sport centre' instead of 'sports centre' and 'begining' which contains a spelling error. You also used phrases like 'all purpose' instead of 'all purposes' and 'sport activity' rather than 'sports activities.' While these inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, refining your word choices and ensuring correct spelling and collocations will significantly strengthen your lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional clauses in 'If the centre would be close, people do not have place...' However, this sentence contains grammatical errors in tense and article usage. There are several other errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues in 'sports and leisure activity plays' and 'Childrens also get place,' as well as missing articles like 'a sport centre' or 'a place.' These errors are typical of this level: they are noticeable and require some effort from the reader to correct, but they do not obstruct the overall meaning of your letter.
