Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to expresss my concerns regarding leisure centre that you are thinking to close. I would like to share that my family members, friends , and neibours as well, love this place. I usually come here in evening time with my family members to perform yoga and excercise. Apart from this, I spend great time here with my frineds on most of the weekends by playing different kind og games.
This leisure centre and sports centre is playing a crucial role for the local community as there is no park for kids in our area. So, children can go there after school for playing sports and to do some fun activities. Moreover, local people prefer to organize small compititions for all age groups to support social gatherings, confidence and communication skills as well.
So, I am requesting you not to close this sports centre as it will effects directly on children and other local people as they would not able to do phsyical games and social events to connect with others.
Thank you for your time. I am lookinh forword to hers from your side.
Kind regards,
Amn

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, addressing how the family uses the centre, why it is important for the community, and the potential negative effects of its closure. The ideas presented are relevant to the general training task, and the letter format is appropriately maintained throughout. However, some areas remain somewhat under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the description of how local people might be affected is slightly generalised when mentioning that children and adults would not be able to do physical games, without providing deeper elaboration. To reach a higher band level, all bullet points would need more fully sustained development, offering richer detail and clearer extension of ideas throughout every section of the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from personal usage to community importance and finally to the consequences of closure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct thoughts, and standard letter conventions such as the opening and sign-off are correctly applied. Cohesion is present, though referencing and transitional links are occasionally a bit mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'So' and 'Moreover' to start sentences. While the connections between sentences mostly make sense, more flexible and varied cohesive devices would elevate the organisational flow. The overall structure is clear and guides the reader successfully through the writer's arguments without causing confusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's core message, but it is limited in range and precision. There are several noticeable spelling errors and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'expresss', 'neibours', 'excercise', 'frineds', 'og', 'compititions', 'phsyical', 'lookinh', and 'hers'. Additionally, phrases like 'do some fun activities' and 'play different kind og games' rely on basic lexical items rather than more precise, natural collocations. While these slips do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score because uncommon vocabulary items are either absent or contain frequent spelling and form errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses with 'as' and 'since'. There are some successful error-free sentences, but grammar and punctuation errors persist throughout the response. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'regarding leisure centre' missing an article, 'thinking to close' instead of 'thinking of closing', 'spend great time here' lacking a determiner, and 'it will effects directly' where a verb is misused instead of a noun or adjective. Furthermore, issues with verb forms appear in phrases like 'would not able to do' and 'I am lookinh forword to hers'. These errors occasionally draw attention but rarely impede overall communication.
