Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify that your family visits the centre to relax, spend time together and take part in physical activities, so the response is relevant to the task. However, it addresses only part of the prompt: it does not explain the centre’s wider importance to the community or describe what might happen to local people if it closes. The letter also ends without a clear request to the council or a suitable closing. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, which leaves too little space to develop the required points. To improve, add specific examples of activities, explain who in the community benefits, and describe likely effects such as fewer affordable exercise options or reduced social contact.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The ideas follow a basic sequence: you introduce your family’s visits, explain that you use the centre to relax, and mention physical activity and stress relief. This gives the reader a general sense of your purpose. However, the response is presented as one long, loosely connected paragraph, and the links between ideas are sometimes unclear. For example, “because we have hactic scedule so when we all get a time” combines several relationships without clear sentence boundaries. The letter also lacks a developed ending. Use separate paragraphs for your family’s use, the community’s benefits, and the consequences of closure, with clear transitions such as “Furthermore” and “If the centre closes.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “physical activities,” “quality time,” and “stress buster,” which helps communicate why your family values the centre. There is also an attempt to use less basic expressions such as “significant source.” However, the range is limited because the response is short, and several spelling errors or imprecise phrases make the writing less clear, including “infor,” “inwind,” “hactic scedule,” and “fit ourselves.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “go to the local council” when referring to the leisure centre. Build a wider set of accurate terms for facilities, community benefits and closure impacts, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “because” and “so that,” but most of the writing relies on a narrow range of structures. Errors in agreement and sentence construction are noticeable: “my family and me often goes” should use a plural verb, and “because we have … so” joins two causal structures awkwardly. The opening also lacks consistent sentence capitalisation and punctuation, making the boundaries between ideas difficult to follow. These problems do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they reduce accuracy and control. Practise forming clear simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement and using full stops to separate complete ideas.
