Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing with regard to the local council related to the usage of sports and leisure centre.
On 15th april 2025, it got inaugrated and it has been more than one year now that me and my family we are using it on daily basis. However, from morning walks to night gathering it has become part of our daily routine.
Furthermore, it is utmost crucial in our society as there are different members of the age groups that resides in our community, for them walking is mandatory. In addition, several individuals are suffering from health issues which is also one significant factor for the leisure centre in the society.
Apart from it, if the centre shuts down it will create the difficulty for the older people. Also, our locality people will travel outisde the society which will effect oir goodwill. Therefore, the decison if ever made for the close should eb abondend.
I look forward for some great growth of our area.
Yours faithfully,
Ridhima

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three requested points and make your position clear: you oppose closure, noting that your family uses the centre daily and that older residents and people with health issues benefit from it. However, the details are unevenly developed. The account of use mentions “morning walks” and “night gathering” but does not explain what activities you and your friends or family actually do. The community benefits are also stated generally, while the effects of closure are limited mainly to difficulty for older people and travel elsewhere. Explain more specifically how closure would affect access to exercise, health, or social contact, and support your request to the council with a clear, developed reason.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening, separate paragraphs for use and community importance, a paragraph about closure, and a polite ending. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “In addition,” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the progression is not always clear. For example, the opening refers to the council and centre without stating the purpose directly, while “Apart from it” does not clearly connect the closure effects to the previous paragraph. The final sentence about “great growth” also does not follow naturally from the request. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each paragraph directly to the letter’s purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “daily routine,” “health issues,” “local community,” and “older people,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “utmost crucial,” but several choices or combinations are unnatural or inaccurate, including “locality people,” “travel outside the society,” and “effect our goodwill.” Spelling errors such as “inaugrated,” “outisde,” and “decison” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and precise terms: for example, describe residents travelling to another facility, and explain that closure would affect community wellbeing or access to exercise. Proofreading would help make your vocabulary more reliable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a time clause in “it has been more than one year now that…” and a conditional idea beginning “if the centre shuts down.” The overall meaning can usually be followed, but errors in sentence construction and agreement sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “me and my family we are using it” has an unnecessary repeated subject, and “different members of the age groups that resides” has an agreement error. The sentence beginning “On 15th april 2025” also needs clearer construction. Practise forming complete, controlled sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation; this will make your ideas easier to read.
