Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
As a resident of South Avenue in Sudbury, I am writing to bring to your attention a matter regarding a close of Sudbury centre.
To provide some specific context, Sudbury centre is one of the most important centres in our neighbourhood as every age of citizen uses them for different purposes including my parents. And they generally do their physical activity including Yoga and meditation.
In addition, this centre plays a crucial role in attracting the youth to participate in outdoor activites and get physically fit. Moreover, adults are also geting together and enjoying their retirement life by communicating with each other.
Regarding the possible closure of the centre, there are no alternatives in the surrounding area where the local people can enjoy their leisure activity. As a result, it may be challenging situation for them to be physically fit due not taking part in outdoor activities.
I hope you will consider my request favourably, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Anshu Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a suitable formal purpose. You explain that your parents use the centre for yoga and meditation, describe its role in bringing young people and retired adults together, and warn that closure would leave residents without nearby alternatives and make it harder to stay fit. These are relevant ideas, but some are less fully developed than others: the effects of closure are mainly framed as reduced access to exercise, without explaining further consequences for social contact or community wellbeing. The opening phrase “a matter regarding a close” also makes the issue less clear than a direct reference to the proposed closure. Add a specific example of how your family uses the centre and develop the likely impact on different groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the concern, describes current use and community value, explains the consequences of closure, and ends with a polite request. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking phrases such as “In addition,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” help connect points. This already gives the response a coherent structure, though some connections feel formulaic and a few references are unclear. For example, “every age of citizen uses them” leaves the reader unsure what “them” refers to, while “Regarding the possible closure” signals a new point but does not link it closely to the preceding community benefits. Use clearer references and vary transitions by showing the relationship between ideas, such as cause and effect or contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “physical activity,” “participate,” “physically fit,” and “leisure activity,” and the intended message is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “a close of Sudbury centre,” “every age of citizen,” and “enjoying their retirement life” do not sound idiomatic in this context. There are also spelling errors in “activites” and “geting.” Aim for natural phrases suited to a formal letter, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for the centre’s social role and the consequences of closure would also help you express your ideas with greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and some attempts at more complex structures, such as the sentence beginning “As a result,” and the clause “as every age of citizen uses them.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “adults are also geting together” uses an incorrect verb form, and “it may be challenging situation” is missing an article. In “every age of citizen uses them,” the singular/plural pattern and pronoun reference are not controlled. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and verb forms, then proofread each sentence. Building on the existing sentence variety while making these patterns more accurate would strengthen the letter.
