Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to inform you how I and my friends are using your sports centre. Firstly, we are very interested in this centre because it gives us a plenty of opportunities to do different type of activities such as running, football, and cricket, which assist to stay healthy.
The sports and leisure cente is significant for many individuals. Whether they are old or child, all take benefits of it in different ways such as they can walk, exercise, and meet different people daily, which help to get them a friendly and positive environment.
If the centre could close, it may effect everyone's daily routine. They can find difficulties in staying healthy as they stopped doing their daily activities. As this centre is near the residential area and close to highway, it has become very popular among people. So, if it will close, it can disturb many people life.
I hope this centre will flourish with time and provide ample facilities in upcoming time.
Yours faithfully,
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain that you and your friends use the centre for activities such as running, football and cricket, describe its value as a place for exercise and social contact, and predict that closure would disrupt people’s routines and health. This gives the letter a clear, relevant purpose. The community benefits and likely effects are, however, stated quite generally. For example, you could explain how the centre supports older residents or families, or what alternatives people might lack if it closes. The final hope that it will “flourish” is positive but does not add much support to your case. More specific development of these ideas would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explaining your use of the centre, a paragraph on its community value, and a paragraph on the consequences of closure. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Whether,” and “So” help show how ideas relate, and the closing is appropriate for a formal letter. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Whether they are old or child” introduces a contrast that is not fully developed, while “So, if it will close” repeats the conditional idea rather than moving the argument forward. The reference to the centre being near a residential area and highway also feels inserted without a clear link to the effects of closure. Clearer transitions and more explicit links between claims would strengthen progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “sports and leisure centre,” “activities,” “residential area,” and “daily routine.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “significant” and “ample facilities.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “a plenty of opportunities,” “take benefits of it,” and “disturb many people life” do not express the intended ideas naturally. “Cente” is also misspelled, and “effect” is used where the verb “affect” is needed. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding formal-sounding words; this will make your meaning clearer and your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a relative clause in “activities … which assist to stay healthy” and a conditional sentence beginning “If the centre could close.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include “how I and my friends are using” (an awkward tense and subject construction), “different type of activities” (number agreement), and “if it will close” after “if,” where the future form is not appropriate. There are also agreement and article problems in “which help to get them” and “many people life.” Work on conditional patterns, subject–verb agreement, and plural forms, while checking sentence construction. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
