Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

I am writing you about important and uses of sports centre.

Firstly, I play different games in leisure centre. My friend and family also use sport centre. It is open at 4oclock in evening. We played different games like cricket practice, hockey practice and play another games on screen. This is very helpful for me.

Secondly, Sport centre is important for local people or community. Those people interested in playing sports game it should be helpful for them. They don't need to another places for sports practice. If this facilities are available in community.

Finally, Leisure centre is very useful for children and young people. They played different games and sports in centre for practice. when you close this center then interested people have worried because there live poor people so they can not go another city for practice. I requested you don't close this center because it is assessment for all community.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you describe playing games at the centre with friends and family, explain that it gives local people a place to practise, and predict that closure would worry people who cannot travel to another city. Your request, “I requested you don't close this center,” also makes your purpose clear. These ideas are relevant, but some are less fully developed than others. For example, the centre’s importance is explained mainly as a convenient place to practise, and the effects of closure are focused on poorer residents and sports participants. Add specific examples of community benefits, such as affordable exercise or activities for children, and explain more fully who would be affected and how. Use the requested salutation, “Dear Sir or Madam,” and a more formal closing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you move from your own use of the centre to its community value and then to the consequences of closure. The sequence markers “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Finally” help readers follow this progression, and the main purpose remains understandable. However, these links are somewhat mechanical, and some connections between sentences are unclear. For instance, “If this facilities are available in community” is left as an incomplete thought, while “when you close this center” shifts abruptly to addressing the reader. Organise each paragraph around one developed point, connect examples directly to the claim they support, and use clearer references such as “the centre” or “local residents” to make relationships between ideas easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a basic set of relevant words, including “sports centre,” “community,” “practice,” and “close,” so the topic is generally clear. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, which can strain the reader’s understanding. For example, “important and uses” does not express the intended meaning clearly, “play another games on screen” is difficult to interpret, and “it is assessment for all community” appears to use the wrong word. Aim for more precise phrases suited to a formal letter, such as “the centre provides valuable facilities” and “residents would have limited access to sports.” Check spelling and word forms, including consistent use of “centre,” and avoid repeating “different games” when a more specific description is possible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Your writing communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, and you attempt to connect ideas with clauses such as “because there live poor people.” However, grammatical control is limited, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “My friend and family also use sport centre,” “If this facilities are available in community,” and “when you close this center then interested people have worried.” The final example also shows difficulty maintaining a clear conditional structure. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and tense consistency. For example: “If the centre closes, local residents may have to travel farther to take part in sports.”
