Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to request to keep open the leisure center. My name is Tanay. I am 25 years old and I am living in this town since my birth.

My friends and I visit the leisure center regularly for relaxation from hectic and stressfull work. Apart from that, many family member visit this in th evening and on weekends with their children to play sports and do fun activities.

Sports center is really hepful for local people in this town as it offers indoor sports and lessons for beginners. During winter and lack of ground near by, this center is the best place to visit for playing sports. Evenmore, lesiure center offers many events during weekends. Numerous people take part in that event and socialise with eachother.

Closing of centers, however, afects many people's routine and they are not able to get relief from their hectic life as they were not having any such place nearby. Another impact is that, local residents would have to pay extra cost to use private sports centers. Currently, at city cport center they just required to pay nominal fees to get enroll.

Once agian,ia m requesting you to please look into this matter and save the cetnre from closing down.

Yours faithfully,

Tanay Bhatt

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear request for the council to keep the centre open. You explain how you and your friends use it for relaxation, and how families visit with children; you also mention beginner lessons, winter use, weekend events, and the affordable fee. The consequences of closure are relevant, especially disruption to routines and the extra cost of private facilities. These details support your position, although some claims remain general—for example, the effects on people who rely on the centre could be illustrated more specifically. The opening and closing are appropriate for a formal letter, but use the exact requested salutation, “Dear Sir or Madam,” to match the instructions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: your purpose and personal use come first, followed by the centre’s community value and the effects of closure. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and connectors such as “Apart from that,” “however,” and “Another impact” make the progression easy to follow. This gives the letter a coherent overall structure. To make the links more natural and precise, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and clarify references such as “this” and “that event.” The final request could also connect more directly to the reasons already given, rather than repeating the appeal without a brief summary. These refinements would make cohesion more flexible and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “indoor sports,” “lessons for beginners,” “socialise,” and “private sports centers.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “nominal fees.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “stressfull,” “hepful,” “lesiure,” and “cetnre” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, including “relaxation from hectic and stressfull work” and “get enroll.” Choose more natural collocations and proofread carefully, particularly for spelling and word forms. A more precise range would help you express the centre’s benefits and the financial impact of closure more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, such as “During winter and lack of ground near by, this center is the best place to visit for playing sports.” The meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction recur. For example, “I am living in this town since my birth” needs a present-perfect form, while “many family member visit” has a plural agreement error. “Currently, at city cport center they just required to pay nominal fees” also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate present and conditional forms, and check articles and plural nouns. More controlled complex sentences would improve accuracy without sacrificing the range you are attempting.
