Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Mdam,

I am writting this letter to infrom you about the centre that all members of the community uses.

To begin with, I would like to give details about how my friends and family uses this centre everyone comes to the center as per thier convinence and do all the physical activities they like to do. Furthermore, physical activity plays a vital role in life of individuals as it makes the person fit and keep away from several diseases.

Secondly, sports and leisure centre is essential for the local community as everyone interact with eaach other and old people also spend their quality time by talking to everyone as to avoid lonliness. Moreover, if the centre closes it will effect to all the indviduals as they will not able to do much more physical activities as they use to do before. Individuals will stop gathering which may effect their lifestyle as well. I would appreciate it if you could please resolve this issue.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Ayush

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you say that family and friends use the centre for physical activities, explain its social value for older people, and describe the loss of exercise and social contact if it closes. The request to the council is also clear in “I would appreciate it if you could please resolve this issue.” However, some points are only briefly explained. For example, you do not give a specific example of how you or your family use the centre, and the effects of closure are stated generally rather than showing how different local people might be affected. Develop these details with one or two concrete examples to make the case more persuasive and fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening, paragraphs introducing the centre’s uses and community value, and a polite closing. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” help readers follow the points. However, the first main paragraph contains several ideas in one long sentence, and the transition between how your family uses the centre and why exercise matters is somewhat abrupt. The second paragraph also combines the centre’s social role, the consequences of closure, and the request to the council. Use clearer paragraph divisions and link each consequence directly to the relevant community benefit. This would make the progression smoother and reduce reliance on formulaic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “physical activities,” “local community,” “quality time,” and “lifestyle,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts to express more specific ideas, such as older people avoiding loneliness. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, including “writting,” “infrom,” “as per thier convinence,” and “it will effect to all the indviduals.” Some repetition of “centre,” “individuals,” and “physical activities” also limits the range. Check spelling carefully and choose more natural collocations, such as “at their convenience” and “affect local residents,” to make the letter clearer and more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea about what may happen if the centre closes and a polite request using “I would appreciate it if…”. The overall meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement and sentence construction: “all members of the community uses” should be “use,” and “how my friends and family uses this centre everyone comes” needs a clear boundary between clauses. Other examples include “they will not able to” and “as they use to do before.” Practise agreement, auxiliary verbs, and punctuation between clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to read.
