Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I'm a resident of this local council since childhood. Me and my family are using the sports and lesiure center since ages. I and my siblings have been using gym section of sports center while my nephew and nieces spend their time in kids playarea of the leisure center.
The sports and leisure center is important for our local community because in this center both adults and kids can enjoy simultaneously. It is also beneficial for the mothers who want to keep themselves fit, they drop their children in the playarea and enjoy their workout time in the gym.
If the center closes, it will effect adults as well as kids becuase there's not other leisure or sports center near our town. It will also affect the fitness of the local community as this is the only gym in the town. It is a humble request to kindly reconsider your decision of closure of this center. I hope you will look into this matter. I shall be very thankful to you.
Kind regards,
Ume Laila

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, polite request for the council to reconsider. The examples of your family using the gym and children using the play area explain how the centre is used, while the point that it serves adults and children at the same time shows its community value. You also identify plausible consequences of closure, including reduced access to exercise and the absence of another nearby centre. These ideas are relevant and supported, although the effects on local people could be extended with more specific consequences, such as added travel costs or fewer opportunities for children to socialise. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some scope to develop the supporting details further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible progression: it introduces your connection to the centre, explains its value, describes possible effects of closure, and ends with a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “because,” “If the centre closes,” and “also” make the relationships between ideas clear. The organisation is coherent, though some connections are basic or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to the centre and its effects. The opening pleasantry is not essential in a formal council letter, and the final request could be linked more directly to the consequences already described. More varied referencing and a slightly tighter progression would make the cohesion more flexible and polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, with relevant terms such as “local community,” “workout,” “gym,” and “reconsider your decision.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision, including “lesiure,” “playarea,” “effect” where the verb “affect” is needed, and “since ages.” Some phrases are also awkward for a formal letter, such as “I'm a resident of this local council since childhood” and “humble request.” Aim for more natural collocations and accurate spelling, and choose precise alternatives such as “I have lived in the area since childhood” and “I respectfully ask you to reconsider.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including the conditional “If the center closes” and the explanation beginning “because.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to limit accuracy. For example, “Me and my family are using” needs a more appropriate subject and tense, while “I and my siblings have been using gym section” needs a natural subject order and an article before “gym section.” The sentence about mothers joining the gym also runs two independent ideas together with a comma. Practise present perfect forms for long-term use, article use, and separating or joining clauses correctly; these changes would make your meaning more fluent and reliable.
