Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The letter makes a basic attempt to address the situation by mentioning a planned basketball game and the centre’s role in bringing people together. However, the required points are only minimally covered: it does not explain how the writer’s family or friends regularly use the centre, and the effect of closure is reduced to people having to find another leisure centre. The importance to the community is stated, but the idea of fellowship is not developed with a clear example. The request for a chance to use the centre also shifts attention away from explaining why the council should keep it open. Address each bullet directly and support each point with specific details, such as activities, benefits, and likely consequences of closure.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a recognisable letter structure, with an opening, a discussion of the centre, and a closing request. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear progression: the planned game, community benefits, closure, and request are crowded together, and the sentence beginning “Sometimes the center is close” is difficult to connect to the surrounding points. Linking phrases such as “In my opinion” and “that's why” are attempted, but they do not consistently clarify the relationships between ideas. Paragraphing would help separate the writer’s use of the centre, its community value, and the consequences of closure. Use clear topic sentences and connect each point explicitly to the council’s decision.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general topic, with relevant terms such as “basketball game,” “local community,” “leisure center,” and “friendly.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or spellings make the message less clear or natural, including “good fellowship,” “perform a…game,” and “become our community become people freindly.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, for example “baskeball,” “cummunity,” and “greatful.” These do not prevent the reader from identifying the main subject, but they reduce precision and can cause difficulty. Build a wider set of natural phrases for describing community activities and benefits, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with an attempt at a longer explanation using “because” and “that's why.” That attempt is often faulty, as in “this is a one way to become our community become people freindly for each other,” so the intended relationship is hard to follow. Other errors include “my family…together with our friend want,” “I would be greatful to giving,” and “I looking forward to you reply.” These show problems with agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “In my opinion,The.” Practise accurate basic clauses first, then add longer sentences using controlled structures such as “If the centre closes, local residents may…”
