Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are fine and finds my letter well. I along with my family members and friends go to the centre every day for different activities. I go to play cricket with my friends daily in the evening while my kids play other sports like football and basketball.

Sports and leisure centre are essential for the local people, because they spend their free time in the centre and it's a place of relaxation for them. All the people get exhausted from their routine work, so it is necessary for them to have such a leisure centre in every colony.

If the centres closes, people will have no opportunity to play different sports which is important for physical and mental health. Our kids will start spending their free time in home and it will increase likelihood to have mental problems.

Our youth will start consuming addictive products and balance will be disturbed.

I look forward to forsee my letter.I shall be thankful to you.

Yours sincerely,

Ahmad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain that you and your family use the centre for cricket, football and basketball, describe its value as a place for exercise and relaxation, and outline possible consequences of closure. These ideas are relevant, but they are not developed equally. The effects on young people—less opportunity for sport and possible mental-health problems—are mentioned, while the claim that young people may use addictive products is not explained or supported. The community benefit is also stated generally rather than illustrated with a specific example, such as affordable access or activities for different age groups. A more formal opening and a clearer request that the council keep the centre open would make the letter’s purpose and position more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it moves from your family’s use of the centre to its community value and then to the consequences of closure. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and links such as “while,” “so,” and “If” make the relationships between ideas understandable. This meets the lower-band expectation of an organised response and shows some features of stronger progression. However, the final section shifts quickly from children’s health to youth substance use and then to “balance,” without explaining how these ideas connect. The closing also feels abrupt. Group related consequences together, use clearer transitions between them, and finish with a direct request to the council to preserve the centre.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main points, with relevant terms such as “leisure centre,” “routine work,” “physical and mental health,” and “addictive products.” These show an attempt to discuss community and health impacts, although some choices are imprecise or unnatural and limit clarity. For example, “spend their free time in the centre” is broad, and “balance will be disturbed” does not clearly identify what balance means. “I look forward to forsee my letter” is also an unsuccessful closing expression. Aim for more precise collocations and formal letter language, such as describing the centre as a “community facility” and saying that closure could “reduce access to affordable exercise.” Check spelling and word forms when using less familiar expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including a contrast with “while” and a conditional sentence beginning “If the centres closes.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. In the opening, “I hope you are fine and finds my letter well” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an awkward structure; “I hope this letter finds you well” is a reliable alternative. There are also agreement and number errors in “Sports and leisure centre are essential” and “If the centres closes,” as well as a missing space after the full stop in “health.Our.” The closing phrase “I look forward to forsee my letter” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Practise agreement, articles and standard formal-letter constructions, then proofread punctuation.
