Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter about the concern to closing the community centre. I strongly believe that the centre is real helpful for the community

I personally use it 3 time in a weak for gym and myworkout session, ladies have thier party 2 time in the week and mens keep thier meeting about the society in the coummunity centre.

Furthermore, People of all age group can workout easyily in the community centre and they can spend thier quailtily time together or they have to go to the park next to the other society which they have to pay for week or day

If the centre close,it will be hard for the local student to play games and they will be spending the lot of time indoor on mobile and some employes will lose thier job, which will be negative effect on physically and mentally on the local people

I kindly request the council to reconsider about thier descision and found an alternate idea without clsing the centre

Kind regards

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and make your position clear by asking the council to reconsider. You explain how you use the centre for gym sessions and mention social gatherings and meetings, then describe its value for people of different ages. The possible consequences of closure—less opportunity for students to play, more time indoors, and job losses—are relevant. This coverage is solid, but some ideas are not fully explained: for example, the benefits of the centre’s social activities and the impact on employees could be developed with a specific example. The request for an alternative is appropriate, though you could make the letter more persuasive by suggesting one practical option, such as reducing costs in another way.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening purpose, paragraphs describing use and community value, a paragraph on the effects of closure, and a closing request. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “If the centre close” help show how the points relate. The overall progression is understandable, but some connections are mechanical or unclear, particularly the sentence about going to a park in another society and paying by the week or day. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, and paragraphing could more clearly separate your personal use from the wider community benefits. Use full stops to divide related points and make references such as “they” unmistakably clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “community centre,” “workout,” “local student,” and “lose their job.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts of the letter difficult to interpret. For instance, “the concern to closing” and “quailtily time” do not express the intended meaning clearly, while “ladies have their party” is imprecise for a formal letter. Spelling errors such as “thier,” “coummunity,” and “clsing” are noticeable. Build a bank of accurate phrases for facilities and community benefits, and proofread spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally follow your main message. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors in sentence formation and grammatical patterns are frequent enough to affect clarity. Examples include “I personally use it 3 time in a weak” and “If the centre close,” where verb forms and agreement need correction. The sentence beginning “Furthermore” joins several ideas without a clear grammatical structure, and the opening lacks a complete, well-formed sentence after “community.” Work on accurate present-tense forms, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries. Shorter, correctly punctuated sentences would make your meaning more reliable.
