Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam.

I am writing to inform you a strong concern regarding the immediate closure of the sports and leisure centre in our locality.

This recreation centre is considered as a best place for every person to practise sports or any other leisure activities. My friends and I used to practise swimming on this place, which improves our body health and muscle movements to a great extent. Apart from this, my family members were a big part of this centre. It's because they used this place to learn yoga and meditation with their friends.

Moreover, this centre helps each and every person to get rid from their stress and strain and it reduces the obesity from their sedentary lifestyle to a great extent.

If the centre closes, it will directly affects the people who are working there as employees and destroys the good relations of students who were studying there .

I kindly request you to consider my request and make necessary actions. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Sree

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, polite purpose: you express concern about closure, describe swimming with friends and yoga and meditation with family, and explain some community benefits. These details make the response relevant. However, the explanation of why the centre matters is more developed than the possible effects of closure. The impact on employees and students is mentioned, but the effects on residents’ health, access to affordable activities, or social connections could be explained more fully. The request to the council is appropriate, though “make necessary actions” does not specify what action you want. Develop the consequences and state your request more precisely to strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, paragraphs describing use and community value, a paragraph on closure, and a courteous closing. Linking expressions such as “Apart from this” and “Moreover” help show how the ideas relate, and the reader can follow the main message. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of progression. However, the links are somewhat mechanical, and the paragraph about closure is brief compared with the preceding discussion. The reference in “students who were studying there” is also not fully clear, since the earlier examples concern swimming, yoga, and meditation. Use more precise referencing and develop the effects in a fuller paragraph to make the progression more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “sports and leisure activities,” “yoga and meditation,” “stress and strain,” and “sedentary lifestyle.” These choices communicate the centre’s health and social value, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several collocations or phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a strong concern,” “a best place,” “get rid from their stress,” and “reduces the obesity.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Choose more conventional combinations and avoid repeating broad terms such as “this place” and “centre.” More accurate collocations would help you express the benefits and consequences with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example, “If the centre closes…” and the relative clause “which improves our body health…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In “I am writing to inform you a strong concern,” the verb pattern needs restructuring; “which improves” does not agree clearly with the preceding idea; and “it will directly affects” uses an incorrect verb form after “will.” There are also errors in articles and prepositions, as in “a best place” and “on this place,” plus punctuation spacing issues. Review verb patterns, subject–verb agreement, and the base form after modal verbs, while keeping the range of sentence structures you have attempted.
