Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to inform you that how much important is our centre for residents and what is the effects of being close of that centre.

I play cricket in the centre since my childhood. Lots of people do various kinds of activities like cycling, walking, running and many more. Centre's atmosphere provide a sense of satisfaction to each and every generation of age by providing fresh air and clean surroundings.

We can enjoy number of sports in the centre without any kinds of restriction. Local residents also use centre's equipment on daily basis to improve their physical stamina. Many people visit centre for chit-chat with their near and dear ones as part of their daily routine.

If centre will close for community, there would be numerous negative consequeces occurs. LIke, there are no places in our area which are beneficial for doing this kind of activity. Old people also getting more tired after spending too much time at home. So, I humble request to you that if it is possible, do not close the doors of the centre.

Awaiting your positive reply.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points and makes its purpose clear: you describe playing cricket since childhood, mention other activities and equipment use, explain the centre’s value for residents, and outline consequences if it closes. The request to keep it open is also explicit. These relevant details meet the lower-band expectations well, and the examples of exercise and social contact show some development. To make the response more fully developed, explain more specifically how closure would affect different groups—for example, where children or older residents could exercise instead, or how losing a shared meeting place might affect community ties. The importance of the centre is clear, though some claims, such as its fresh air and clean surroundings, could be linked more directly to community benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information is arranged in a generally coherent sequence: you introduce the issue, describe how people use the centre, explain its value, and then discuss possible consequences before making a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages. However, links between ideas are sometimes mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “also,” and the transition from describing the centre’s benefits to predicting closure effects could be smoother. Some references are not fully clear, as in “there are no places in our area which are beneficial for doing this kind of activity”; naming the activities or facilities would make the point easier to follow. A more formal closing and a clearer paragraph structure for each task point would strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “physical stamina,” “daily routine,” “local residents,” and “negative consequences.” These choices help communicate the centre’s recreational and social value. There are also noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems that limit precision, such as “being close of that centre,” “number of sports,” “chit-chat,” and the misspelling “consequeces.” “Centre’s atmosphere provide a sense of satisfaction” is also an awkward combination of words. Aim for natural formal expressions such as “closure of the centre,” “a range of sports,” and “socialise.” More accurate collocations and careful spelling would make your vocabulary more effective and appropriate for a letter to the council.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors occur across several sentence patterns, and attempts at complex structures are often faulty. For example, “I am writing this letter to inform you that how much important is our centre” has incorrect word order and clause structure; “If centre will close” uses an unsuitable conditional form; and “there would be numerous negative consequences occurs” combines incompatible verb forms. There are also agreement and article problems in “Centre’s atmosphere provide” and “Old people also getting more tired.” Practise forming indirect questions, conditional sentences, and complete clauses, while checking subject–verb agreement and articles. These corrections would make your meaning clearer and more controlled.
