Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my views about the local council centre. My family and I use the council center to pass their free time in a productive way. Being members of the council center, we are allowed to play tennis, basket ball and base ball any time of the day. Moreover, we can enjoy playing out door games and a walk around the riverside. We meet with other members of the community and build network with them.
Sports and leisure time play a significant role for the local community. People get fresh after a a long tiring day and they regain their energy and feel productive. So, thye can perform better on their job and get more done in less time.
If the leisure centre closes, local people will not get the opportunity of playing sports or having entertainment. This may badly affect their physical and mental health. They often do not get chance to meet with people living in their neighbourhood. So, this may impact their social life. I wish the local lesiure centre remain open for all the people living in the community.
Yours faithfully,
Hira

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear purpose: you explain how your family uses the centre, why it benefits the community, and what could happen if it closes. Specific activities such as tennis, basketball and baseball make the first point relevant, while the effects on health and social life are also appropriate. The explanation of community importance is less fully developed: the claims that people feel refreshed and work better would be stronger with a concrete example of who benefits, such as children, older residents or people who cannot afford private facilities. Your request that the centre remain open is clear, but a more direct appeal to the council and a little more support for the key ideas would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it moves from your family’s use of the centre to its wider value and then to the consequences of closure. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “So” and “If” make the relationships between ideas understandable. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, however. For example, “So, they can perform better on their job” follows a broad claim about feeling productive without explaining the link, and “They often do not get chance” has an unclear reference to which local people are meant. Use more precise referencing and develop transitions through the meaning of the ideas, rather than relying mainly on simple linking words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “productive,” “significant role,” “physical and mental health” and “social life.” These phrases show some range beyond basic wording. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice or collocation problems limit precision: “council center” is inconsistent with “centre,” “pass their free time” is unnatural, and “build network” needs a more natural expression. There are also misspellings such as “thye” and “lesiure,” which distract from the message. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas sound more natural and help you express the benefits of the centre more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including “If the leisure centre closes, local people will not get the opportunity…” and “Being members…, we are allowed…”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “My family and I use … to pass their free time” has a pronoun-agreement problem, while “People get fresh after a a long tiring day” contains article and phrasing errors. “They often do not get chance” also needs an article, and the final request would be clearer with a correctly formed verb phrase. Review articles, pronoun reference and verb forms, and proofread punctuation and spacing. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
