Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing good. I am writting this letter to bring your attention towards the use of community center, why is it important and the possible effects if the center shuts down.
My friends and I use this center alot for our Volleyball practice. Also almost all the kids from neighbourhood uses the play area every single day. Older people likes to walk around the field during the dusk and down. This place is being used my numerous people in our community.
Additionally, I would like to mention that sports and recreation centre are nessecery for community because it keeps the young onces involved in physical activities thus helps them improving there health. Moreover, older people around the town likes to spend some time in public sauna.
However, if the center get closed, it would negitevly impact the people who uses it on everyday basic. Like, older people would not have a place to spend leisure time , kids would not able to practice there sports.
So I along with respected community members would like to make a request to not to close the center. I hope you understand the depth of our feelings.
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three points and maintains a clear request: you ask the council “not to close the center.” You give relevant examples of use, including volleyball practice, children’s play, older people walking, and use of the sauna. You also explain the centre’s value for physical activity and community leisure. This covers the task well, but some points are less fully developed than others. In particular, the effects of closure are stated briefly—older people would lose a place to spend leisure time and children could not practise—without explaining further consequences, such as reduced access to affordable exercise or fewer opportunities to socialise. Adding one or two specific impacts would make the case more persuasive and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the purpose, describes how people use the centre, explains its value, outlines possible effects of closure, and ends with a request. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and connectors such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. The organisation is easy to follow, though some links are a little mechanical, and the sentence beginning “Like, older people…” is an abrupt fragment rather than a smoothly connected explanation. The opening also previews the letter’s points in a somewhat repetitive way. To strengthen cohesion, connect examples more naturally and use pronouns or linking phrases with clear references, while keeping each paragraph focused on one purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “Volleyball practice,” “physical activities,” “leisure time,” and “community members.” There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “bring your attention” and “possible effects.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and sometimes make the letter less natural: “alot,” “nessecery,” “negitevly,” and “everyday basic” are examples. Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, such as “older people likes to walk around the field” and “young onces.” Build accuracy with common collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “local residents,” “well-being,” and “daily basis” would help express your ideas clearly and appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “it keeps the young onces involved in physical activities thus helps them improving there health.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For instance, “all the kids … uses” should have a plural verb, while “older people likes” also needs plural agreement. In “would not able to practice,” the verb phrase is incomplete, and “helps them improving” uses an incorrect verb pattern. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, including the run-on spacing before “Moreover.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete modal constructions, and proofread sentence boundaries.
