Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, pictures have changed the way we look at the world entertainment. Several news stories on television often consists of photos. Certain individuals believe that these pictures are more popular as compared to the words. In my opinion, I agree with this viewpoint.
One of the main reasons why pictures are more accepted these days is the onset of technological advancements and many photo editing applications . To explain this, photos made by the artificial intelligence are more catchy and liked by the people as they are colourful and are nicely made . To illustrate, especially young children showed more interest in reading newspapers when they see pictures in them as it catches their attention. Thus, in modern times photos play an essential role in overall cognitive development and interest building ability of the children.
Furthermore, pictures are very easy to understand than the words. To elaborate this, words need effort, stress, hard work for understanding and is a laborious and mundane task. For instance, there is a concept of memory imprinting in which individuals can recall the photos easily and effectively rather than words. Therefore, pictures are a great way of memorizing things and news in an effective manner.
In conclusion, photos express content in a better way which is lucid and easy to grasp which helps the individuals to know more with ease. According to me, addition of pictures in the news stories and newspapers should be encouraged for better learning of people who want something unique and different.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the visual appeal of technology and the cognitive ease of processing images versus text. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'memory imprinting' is a good point but could have been expanded with a more concrete real-world example beyond a general statement. The response covers all parts of the task well, but the depth of analysis is slightly superficial, which prevents it from reaching the higher band descriptors. Overall, the position is consistent and the main points are clearly presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'To illustrate', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be more sophisticated. Referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the length of the essay, contributing to an overall coherent structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'cognitive development', 'lucid', and 'mundane'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'world entertainment' (which is slightly awkward) and 'photos made by the artificial intelligence' (which should be 'AI-generated images'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary to reach a higher band. The range is sufficient but not particularly wide or sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('news stories... consists of') and awkward phrasing ('pictures are very easy to understand than the words'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues before commas. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from achieving a higher score. To improve, the writer should focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of comparative structures.
