Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that news stories on TV and in newspapers are more effective than words. In my opinion, this a positive way to convey the news to the people, because it can help people to understand the news in better way, and it may make the news interesting.
The primary reason why I believe this way is an effective way is that accompanied pictures can make complex news easy to understand. People generally learn things quicker from pictures. With visuals, they can relate themselves with news stories, which enhance their understanding. Furthermore, news stories are usually complex and contain a lot of information, which could be hard to explain with words only. For example, many crimes stories are presented by using pictures and effects, which can make their viewers engaged with the news.
Another reason is that many viewers prefer to watch or read those news which have some spices in their stories. So, news channels or newspapers often use cartoon characters in their news stories, especially stories related to the politicians. They usually combine the look of famous personalities with the famous cartoons, which can be attractive for many news readers. Consequently, news paper or news channels get more TRP. For instance, news stories are more often presented like a cartoon story in today's world, which result in increase in number of young audience.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that news stories on TV and in newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures, because it may be more effective than words. I think that is true, since this can make a complex news easy to understand, and it also make the news more interesting that can attracts a large number of viewers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position and supporting reasons. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of visuals in simplifying complex information and the use of 'spices' or entertainment value to engage audiences. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where the points are restated without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the implications of your examples, such as discussing the potential downsides of sensationalism in news, rather than just focusing on the benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Furthermore', 'Another reason', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'I believe this way is an effective way', which is slightly redundant. Overall, the flow is smooth and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'TRP' and 'complex news'. However, there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary, and some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'relate themselves with news stories' (should be 'relate to') and 'have some spices in their stories' (which is informal). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid informal idioms or overly simplistic phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'this a positive way' (missing 'is'), 'news paper' (should be one word), 'which result in increase' (missing 'an'), and 'it also make the news' (subject-verb agreement error). These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
