Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, Tv channel telecast their stories by pictures instead of words. Some people believe that this method is more attractive to convey the story. According to me, this idea is great because watching stories with pictures are more impactful and easy to remember.
The main reason is that pictures attract people's attention immediately. In other words, most people notice an image before they start reading an article. For example, photographs of floods or earthquakes show the seriousness of the situation instantly and create a strong emotional impact. As a result, they become more interested in the news so picture make the news more memorable than words alone.
Another reason is that pictures help people understand information quickly.
They can explain complex events in simple way, especially for children or people who are not fluent in the language. For instance, maps, graphs and accident photographs make it easier to understand what has happened without reading long paragraphs. Hence, picture improve communication and make news easier to understand.
Whereas, words are also important to read the complete article because sometime pictures only shows the overview of the story. For example, some pictures creates confusion among readers at that time words play inevitable role to provide deep meaning of the story. Consequently, words are still important to complete the story.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that pictures are more effective than words because they attract attention, create emotional impact and help people understand news more easily. However, written words are still important for providing complete information.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for why pictures are effective, such as their immediate emotional impact and ability to simplify complex information. The inclusion of a counter-argument regarding the importance of words adds depth to the discussion. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are slightly more detailed; for instance, instead of just mentioning 'floods or earthquakes', you could briefly describe how a specific image conveys the scale of a disaster. Overall, the ideas are well-developed and the position is consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'In other words', 'As a result', 'For instance', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. For example, the transition 'Whereas, words are also important' is slightly awkward; 'On the other hand, written text remains essential' would be more natural. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'impactful', 'complex events', 'inevitable role', and 'overview'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Tv channel telecast their stories' (should be 'TV channels broadcast their stories') and 'picture make the news' (should be 'pictures make the news'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, there is room for more precision and variety to reach a higher band. Focusing on accurate subject-verb agreement and pluralization will help improve the overall quality of your lexical expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'watching stories with pictures are' should be 'is', 'picture improve' should be 'pictures improve') and article usage. There are also minor punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'According to me' (a more natural alternative is 'In my opinion'). The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over basic grammatical rules will significantly enhance your writing.
