Student answer (Band 5.5)

In our contemporary world, photographs are mostly being used to tell stories on the television and on the daily's paper. Some individuals argue it is more interesting than words. I believe pictures should be giving higher percentage to relate stories.

I firmly believe photographs give more details of a particular event or a tales than using words. A stories is mostly felt by seeing the photo of it because it makes it more real and more detailed.

Futhermore, an artwork can be attractive and draw the attention of non - interested person to be eagered to want to know what is the story is all about. Unlike words which many have to create time out of their busy schedule to read.

In conclusion, photographs enable people to know the detail and also make it more real to them. I believe if more pictures

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 143 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While the student identifies a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth or illustrative examples required for a higher band. The task is only partially addressed because the response is unfinished, preventing a full exploration of the topic. To improve, the student must expand on their points with specific examples and ensure the essay follows a complete structure including a full conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay shows some attempt at logical organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the overall coherence. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion', but the limited length makes the progression feel mechanical and incomplete. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is cut off, which hinders the flow of ideas. To improve, the student should focus on completing their thoughts and using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision expected for higher bands. There are some awkward phrasings, such as 'daily's paper' and 'giving higher percentage', which indicate a limited control of collocations. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'contemporary world' and 'artwork', but the overall range is narrow. To improve, the student should focus on learning more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions related to media and communication, while paying closer attention to word forms and standard collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity, such as 'pictures should be giving higher percentage' and 'a tales'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement, for example, 'a stories is'. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the attempt at complex sentences is often marred by errors. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete nature of the final sentence is a significant issue. To improve, the student needs to practice basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and plurals.
