Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, news reports with images represented on television or in newspapers are more poular. Some individuals believe that images has great imapact rather than written descriptions . I agree that images are highly effective, however words are equally important as it provides the detailed description.

On the one hand, pictures have a stronger immediate reaction to the situation and connection of emotions. As after seeing a picture, it becomes easier to get the idea about the news rather than reading a long article. For example, the pictures of natural disasters and wars help people to understand the seriousness of the situation . In many cases people remember a powerful image for a long time because of visual impression.

On the other hand, written details have the same importance as photographs. Pictures can give idea about what happened whereas, words describe everything about that like why does this happened and where it is. For instance, a crowded street in the picture cannot provide the information whether its celebration, a protest or an emergency situation. Thus, a written report is necessay t know the depth of the picture.

In my opinion, images makes easier the quick understanding and attract people's attention while written explanation expalins the condition of the situation. Therefore, neither images nor words should be considered more vital.

In conclusion, news stories on TV and newpaper have pictures that provides better understanding but written descriptions also equally important to know the details.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both the effectiveness of images and the necessity of words. However, the response is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more fully extended with more specific examples. The conclusion is a bit repetitive of the introduction. Because the word count requirement was not met, the score is capped at a 5.5, as the development of ideas is constrained by the brevity of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the sentence 'As after seeing a picture' is a fragment that disrupts the flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, but the cohesion could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'poular', 'imapact', 'necessay', 'expalins', and 'newpaper', which are distracting. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'important', and 'idea'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of common words. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'images has', 'images makes', 'pictures that provides') and article usage. Some sentences are awkward, such as 'words are equally important as it provides the detailed description'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
