Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of pictures in news media. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument that pictures are 'time-saving' is mentioned, but it could be supported with a more concrete example of how a visual summary helps a busy professional. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the arguments remain at a somewhat superficial level. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with specific examples or logical consequences rather than just stating the idea.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'In addition', and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'While, some individuals assert...'. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, which makes the relationship between sentences feel a bit rigid. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring they are used more naturally would enhance the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'tech-savvy', 'modern media', and 'appealing'. However, there are several spelling errors ('discribe', 'thik', 'insident', 'oreanted', 'articale', 'invovle', 'there' instead of 'their') and word choice issues ('picturize newspaper'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, although they do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, focus on proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'technology has change' (should be 'changed'), 'One of the major reason is' (should be 'reasons'), and 'the way people read news have been changed' (should be 'has'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of commas after 'While'. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
