Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an undeniable fact that pictures speak louder than words. The newpapers and Television news stories are published with pictures. While some believe that photographs are more impactable as compared to words, others rejects this notion.

This essay will explain how both aspects are incomplete without each other.

To begin with, photos paint a vivid image of the reality. People can see the actuall situation of the warzones, earthquake sitse and flooded areas. When emotionas are envolved, companies tries to capture all the benefits such as selling more copies of the newspapers and increasing the rating of the news channels. For example, when Japan was hit by earthquake, thousands of victums sufferred the consequences, then Reporters all over the worlds flew there and trying to show the pain and suffering by live podcast to the others. Hence, a picture can told a stories without saying a world.

On the other hand, sometimes pictures can be misinterpreted and mislead the truth. Some journals print pictures, which are not relavent to the stories, however, they are emotional and eye-catching without any connection to the words. For example, some photographers click shots while countries are going through femine due to weather, but publish a story about countires has poor economy and ask for funds to help them. But this money never reach to the needy people. Therefore, words are important to explain the real circumstances.

In conclusion, not only does images can help to print the correct sentiments of the conditions, but also provide the reality check. Despite bring ture, some peolpe twist the use of photos and present a wrong information, thus words are important as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of pictures versus words in news media. You have a clear position that both are necessary, which is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the emotional impact of disaster photography and the potential for visual manipulation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the example regarding the earthquake in Japan is a bit generic and could be more precisely linked to the argument about how words provide necessary context. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting example is fully explained to demonstrate its connection to your central thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'Despite bring ture'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability and coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vivid image', 'misinterpreted', and 'circumstances'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'impactable' (instead of 'impactful'), 'femine' (spelling error for 'famine'), and 'live podcast' (which is likely not the intended term for live news coverage). Additionally, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'actuall', 'sitse', 'emotionas', and 'victums'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain errors in subject-verb agreement and tense, such as 'companies tries to capture' and 'a picture can told a stories'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, for example, 'the newpapers' and 'not only does images can help'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distract the reader, though the meaning remains generally clear. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
