Student answer (Band 5.0)

A few people believe that news stories on tv and in newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures and say that these pictures are more effective than words. Their are some positive and negative effects on people are explained in frothier more paragraph with my opinion.

To beginning with, nowadays media use pictures to promote stories because if people will just read that, they can not feel it but at a same time if they shaw a picture of that they can easily get idea of that stories. For example, if tide company as given written add in newspaper people will just read that they have no idea about that but at same time if get get picture of that they can know what the product is actually.

However, there is some negative side of these few stories are 18+ and not good for children's. So if they just words than it will good. Moreover, adds on knife they just have to mention company name no picture nothing. For example, everyone know how to use knife they did not have to provide the picture for that and these is also safe for children.

In my opinion, I would like to share that their should be limitation of stories in picture in tv and newspaper. These will help children form not learning bad things as well as it pass information to everyone. Nowadays mostly people use graphics for their stories as well as these is useful. All age of people are interested in these types of picture stories,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of pictures in news stories. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The argument regarding '18+' content and knives is not clearly linked to the core question of whether pictures are more effective than words for news communication. The position is stated but lacks depth, and the examples provided (such as the tide company and knives) are not fully relevant to the context of news reporting. To improve, you should focus on providing more sophisticated arguments about how visual media impacts public perception and information retention.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To beginning with', 'However', 'Moreover'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between 'limitation of stories' and the previous arguments is weak. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the expression of your ideas. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'shaw a picture' (show), 'tide company as given written add' (advertisement), and 'knife they just have to mention'. These errors occasionally impede communication. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise terms related to media, journalism, and communication, and work on using these words in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Their are some positive', 'everyone know'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors that make them difficult to parse, such as 'if people will just read that, they can not feel it'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation significantly impacts the quality of the writing. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency.
