Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you have identified a position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth or specific examples. The second paragraph attempts to explain why images are effective, but the reasoning is repetitive and lacks clarity. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you reach the required length to allow for a full exploration of the topic. The conclusion is also missing, which is a key component of a well-structured essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the awkward transition 'Another rational which hauls me to patron is'. The lack of a clear introduction, body, and conclusion makes the overall flow difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using logical linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more naturally and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly, which hinders the clarity of your message. Phrases like 'concurrent world' and 'hauls me to patron' are unnatural and do not convey the intended meaning. There is also a reliance on basic vocabulary. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary. For example, instead of 'big colorful pictures', use 'vivid imagery' or 'compelling visual aids'. Work on expanding your range of vocabulary to express complex ideas more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'news stories reveals'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'pictures news stories influences'), and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, and the errors are persistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization. Proofreading your work for simple errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions will also help improve your accuracy significantly.
