Student answer (Band 6.5)
News plays an important role in raising public awareness in the society. People mostly prefer to spend their time watching the news on Tv channels or read newspapers. Additionally, News stories are frequently accompanied by pictures to improve the authenticity and increase the engagement of the public. This essay will examine the reasons behind the use of photographs with news on the television and newspaper before presenting my viewpoint.
One of the main reasons behind it is understanding and knowledge. People can understand news stories more easily when they are accompanied by relevant pictures. Therefore, a crime story can have a great impact when people see the photograph of the crime place. Moreover, It helps to generate interest of the non-interested people to read and see that particular piece of the news.
To strengthen the opinion, people think if the creative designer work in a really creative way so they can increase the sale because pictures are more effective in some concepts such as fashion, jewellery, furniture and cosmetic products, where people get attracted by photos of the products instead of the articles and news.
As per my opinion, I believe pictures in the news affect people positively. It increases reader's interest and engagement for a long term. Furthermore, pictures in the newspapers present the exact situation and help to increase the trust of the individuals that difficult for only words to generate.
In conclusion, pictures play an important role in making news stories more effective and engaging. They can help people understand complex situations and create a stronger emotional response than words alone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that pictures are more effective than words. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of images in enhancing understanding and emotional engagement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the third paragraph regarding 'creative designers' and 'fashion/furniture' is slightly tangential to the core debate about news effectiveness. To reach a higher band, you should focus more on the psychological or cognitive impact of imagery in journalism rather than commercial advertising. Overall, the position is consistent, but the supporting arguments could be more deeply explored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Therefore', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as 'To strengthen the opinion, people think if the creative designer work...', are slightly clunky, which affects the overall flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'authenticity', 'engagement', and 'complex situations'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'generate interest of the non-interested people' (better: 'generate interest among those who are otherwise uninterested') and 'as per my opinion' (better: 'in my opinion'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it does not yet show the flexibility or sophisticated control required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'if the creative designer work' should be 'if creative designers work', and 'that difficult for only words to generate' is a fragmented or poorly structured clause. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are instances of unnecessary capitalization (e.g., 'Tv'). The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors in subject-verb agreement and sentence construction prevents a higher score.
