Student answer (Band 6.0)
Undoubtedly, news stories on television and newspaper are frequently comes with picture. Some people argue that pictures plays a greater role than words. In my prospective, both words and images are equally important in making the news more effective which I will explain in the upcoming paragraphs.
A few individual believe that pictures are more powerful in communicating with the public than words. The very obvious reason is that pictures attract the reader's attention. Sometimes, individuals able to understand the news from the picture only because of language barriers. As a result, media and publisher publish most of the news with the suitable images. For instance, it has been observed that the news channel who present pictures while announcing the news produce more attention.
However, as every coin has two sides. Similarly, words also plays equal roles as images. Imagine the news with just picture only, how reader would be able to understand? Sometimes, words contains more weigh than the images as they provide sense to the reader. To exemplify, various TV channels are popular because they communicate with the public verbally and provides them information from every parts of the world. In addition, words in newspaper helps individual to improve their reading skills, vocabulary, and new words which would not be possible with the picture only. Also, some masses read newspaper only just to enhance their cognitive skills.
To conclude, although newspaper are oftenly accompanied with pictures, it is not worthy to say pictures are more beneficial than the words. In my opinion both plays equal role in making the news more attractive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided reasons for both sides of the argument, such as the visual appeal of images and the informative nature of text. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'cognitive skills' is mentioned but not fully explained or linked back to the prompt's core question about effectiveness. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is elaborated with more depth and specific, illustrative examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However,' 'To exemplify,' and 'In addition,' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect sentences more fluidly and improve the logical flow between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'media,' 'publisher,' and 'cognitive skills.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'news stories... are frequently comes with' and 'words contains more weigh.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that word forms (e.g., singular/plural agreement) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'pictures plays,' 'words also plays,' 'newspaper are oftenly') and article usage. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. While they rarely impede the reader's understanding, they indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures. Increasing your focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and subject-verb consistency will help improve your score in this criterion.
