Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, news channels are using photos and pictures of the events, alongside with written information, some people believe that showing pictures instead of the detailed paragraph is far more convenient and easy to understand as picture contains the real footage of the events and can portray in depth explanation. However, in my opinion showing only pictures in the news can lead to misinterpretation of the events and can sometimes convey false information, so a balanced way of showing picture alongside with written descriptions are more reliable.

It is no doubt, that picture can show the reality and helps people to understand the scale of an event. Floods, earthquakes, protests and pandemics are often expressed in the form of pictures to the public, this helps them to know about the situation and also give them the better idea to take precautions as well

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 142 words. This severely limits the development of your ideas. While you have identified a position and provided some relevant examples, such as mentioning floods and earthquakes, the lack of length prevents you from fully extending your arguments or providing a comprehensive conclusion. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific examples. The current response is too brief to adequately address the task requirements, which results in a lower score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into two paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the text. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'In addition', but the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The paragraphing is insufficient because the second paragraph is underdeveloped and lacks a clear concluding thought. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'misinterpretation', 'footage', and 'precautions', which is positive. However, there is a reliance on basic phrasing, and some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'alongside with' (should be 'alongside' or 'along with'). To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and idiomatic expressions that are appropriate for a formal discussion on media and communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors that affect the flow of your writing. For instance, 'It is no doubt, that picture can show' should be 'There is no doubt that pictures can show'. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'a balanced way of showing picture' (should be 'pictures'). While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by punctuation errors or awkward phrasing. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures.
