Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an ongoing argument that images shown in newspaper and television leave a huge and long lasting impression on the individuals rather than just a story. while some people might not agree with this, however my opinion is completely in favor of this. In this essay we will discuss the supporting arguments and related examples.

Images showcases a different side to the story sometimes that cannot be expressed through just words. To elaborate, many newspaper articles showcases pictures to show the intensity of the situation or actual happenings with supporting statements to make it more interesting. For example In a famous Indian newspaper "The Hindustan times" there was a images of a girl on the first page during a recent student protest of paper leak. The image showed that girl peacefully protesting, while a policemen trying to hit her with rod. This picture caused a lot of backlash on government and thus caused them to agree to the demands of students.

With that there is a psychological factor included in that as well. A recent Netflix documentary "how our brain works" shows that how images leave a more lasting impact on our mind than just simple words. To explain this point more briefly i would like to talk about the 9/11 incident. Many of us till this date still remembers the horrifying images more than the articles we read about it.

In conslusion, I believe that pictures accompanied add more depth and lasting images on minds and it a great way of selling stories than just putting put a plain article.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of images being more effective than words. The ideas are relevant and supported by specific examples, such as the protest in 'The Hindustan Times' and the 9/11 incident. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the examples are clear, the analysis could be more profound to reach a higher band. The essay structure is logical, and the position remains consistent throughout. To improve, ensure that the explanation of why images are more effective is more thoroughly explored rather than just providing anecdotal evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To elaborate,' 'For example,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the opening sentence structure. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'backlash' and 'intensity.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'images showcases' (subject-verb agreement) and 'putting put a plain article' (repetition/typo). The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Expanding the range of collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Images showcases,' 'a images of a girl') and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in capitalization and sentence boundary control. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb agreement would significantly improve the overall standard.
