Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of pictures in news, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you present a position, the arguments are somewhat contradictory and lack logical depth. For instance, you initially suggest pictures help understanding, but then pivot to arguing that reading without pictures is better for cognitive development. The supporting examples, such as the references to 'BBC news' and 'Harved university', are vague and lack specific detail, which limits the persuasiveness of your argument. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout and provide more detailed, logical explanations for your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To start with', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The relationship between sentences is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the conclusion where the sentence structure is fragmented. To improve, focus on using transition words that accurately reflect the logical connection between your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'revelad' (revealed), 'asserrt' (assert), 'pictuer' (picture), and 'oftenly' (often). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use more sophisticated or precise language to express your ideas. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your range of vocabulary related to media, education, and cognitive development. Using synonyms and more precise collocations will help you convey your points more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'A several citizens' is grammatically incorrect, and 'without pictuer read book is boring' lacks proper syntax. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making them difficult to parse. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
