Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 194 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While the essay attempts to address the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of pictures versus words, the argument is cut short, and the conclusion is entirely missing. The ideas provided, such as the '98 percent' statistic, lack depth and logical support. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words to allow for a full exploration of your arguments, including a clear introduction, well-supported body paragraphs, and a concluding summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay shows some attempt at organization, with a clear introduction and body paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'Apart from this', but they are sometimes used mechanically. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall flow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details, leading to a logical conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'Borenses' (likely meaning boredom) and 'distract from reading' (which should be 'distracted from'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, you should aim to use a broader range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media and communication. Avoid repeating basic words and try to incorporate more precise synonyms to convey your meaning more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'word is less effective that picture' (should be 'words are less effective than pictures') and 'image are eye catching' (subject-verb agreement error). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and punctuation is inconsistent, with missing capitalization at the start of sentences and incomplete thoughts. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and the correct use of articles. Practice constructing more complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions to improve your grammatical range.
