Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that pictures are more effective than words. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that pictures provide better 'expressions and emotions' and are easier for children to understand, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. The example regarding comic books is relevant but not fully explored to support the broader argument about news media. To improve, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasons, perhaps discussing how images provide immediate visual evidence or how they transcend language barriers, rather than repeating the same points about 'understanding' and 'interest' throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'To commence with' and 'To explicate it' are used in a way that feels unnatural. There is also a lack of variety in linking words, with 'To elaborate it' and 'For instance' appearing frequently. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'many of the individuals are more attractive to the pictures as compare what they write', which makes the logical flow between sentences feel disjointed at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'good', 'understand', and 'interest'. There are also several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'more better' (a grammatical error that also affects lexical precision), 'attractive to the pictures' (should be 'attracted to'), and 'doesn't need to seen'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'visual impact', 'convey information', or 'linguistic barriers'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('some of the people's doesn't need', 'pictures gives'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain run-on structures. For instance, 'many of the people are saying that the pictures are more better than the words on TV and newspapers' contains a double comparative error. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement.
