Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, publishers are usually used the various pictures to highlight and make a eye catching news for readers in television and newspapers. Some individuals belief that words are more effective than photos while others controvert the same and like photographs in the news stories. In my opinion, provide pictures with theoritical news enhance the experience of readers by which they could relate and easily understand the situation or story behind the scenes.

Consequently, people who read newspapers or watching news on daily basis sometimes feel boredum or require more focus to understand the news without any picture. If news channels does not provide relevant information with photographs then it would be difficult to attract individuals towards their channels. Due to this, it might be affect not only their viewership but also their channel rating as well. For instance, in previous decade, mostly news channels and newspapers were not used the pictures by which their platforms become boring for the people.

Moreover, provide pictures with the news also work as a proof for that information. Now, viewers have doubt about the relevancy or fake news therefore, pictures plays a significant role to prove the news real in the society. For example, news of peace summit of various nations are published in the newspapers with the photographs of ministers in that meeting. Resultantly, individuals belief easily by the picture in the news as compare to the only theoritical information.

To conclude, although, words are vital to provide details of that information in the news, pictures makes that news more interesting especially for the headlines by which various new customers are also influenced towards the news.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that pictures enhance the reader's experience and provide proof. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of peace summits. However, the development is somewhat limited, and the argument could be strengthened by exploring why some might prefer words over pictures more deeply. The response maintains a consistent position throughout, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on general statements about viewership or boredom.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Consequently,' 'Moreover,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors. Referencing is generally clear, though the transition between ideas could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6.5 or 7.0 level of organization.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use less common items like 'contemporary era,' 'controvert,' and 'theoritical' (though this is a spelling error). However, there are several word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'publishers are usually used' instead of 'publishers usually use' and 'theoritical news' instead of 'text-based news.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on accurate collocations would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'publishers are usually used,' 'individuals belief' (instead of believe), and 'pictures plays' (instead of play). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. While the meaning remains clear, the lack of control over basic grammatical structures prevents a higher score. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
