Student answer (Band 6.0)

In an increasingly interconnected world, photos of the story with the news the commonly witnesssed phenomenon. Some part of society argue that pictures of the news have more effect than words, while others believe that pictures are not more effective. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the above statement as it bear certain merits.

To commence with, if news channels post photo or video of the story with the news, it enable people to know about the actual view of the scene. To substantiate, people get opportunity to understand how particular mishappening impacted individuals of that place and what troubles locals are facing. To cite an example, report from CPP news showes that State of Punjab got funding of 4 million dollars from other states when videos of floods in Punjab were displayed by different news reporters. Hence, pictures allow public to know the actual circumstances.

Probing ahead, photos of the scene not only provide actual evidences but also ensure public that news is real. In other words, it may be heard for people to trust any particular news until they see its actual evidences. To quote an instance, according to report from University of Delhi, approximately stood in stand of victim of rape case in Delhi as not was willing to believe that this crime can happen in metro city, but when reports by doctors were published on news, more then 92 percent of population stood in stand of victim. Therefore, photos assist people to rely and trust the information.

To recapitulate, news allow people to know what is going around the world. Having pictures with the news are quite helpful to trust the information reported by news channels as well as individuals are able to get actual view of the scene.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing supporting arguments. The ideas regarding the emotional impact of images and their role in establishing credibility are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited by linguistic inaccuracies. The example regarding the Delhi rape case is slightly confusing in its phrasing, which hinders the clarity of the argument. While the position is consistent throughout, the essay would benefit from more sophisticated analysis and a more nuanced exploration of why pictures might be considered more effective than words in different contexts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To substantiate', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. The flow between sentences is generally logical, but the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the news report and the public reaction could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'mishappening' is not standard English, and 'stood in stand of victim' is an awkward phrasing. There is an attempt to use a range of vocabulary, but the lack of precision in word choice prevents a higher score. The student relies on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'actual view of the scene' and 'actual evidences', which limits the lexical variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'photos... is the commonly witnessed phenomenon'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'it enable people'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are clunky due to grammatical slips. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors is high enough to distract the reader and indicates a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures.
