Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few individuals say that News stories on big screens like TV and in newsapers are very often accompanied by pictures and these photos are more powerful than words. I am going to discuss my own opinions in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, If any tragedy happens news channel or media they have a free will to represent the incident however they want to.They just want to sell news as well as they just need views for that particular statement. For Instance, Last night , I was outside with my parents. we were near the mohali highway then an accident happened instead of helping that injured man people were taking his photos and recorded him. However,These pictures pop up on social media and media used it and represent it as a spicy news for their own benifit.

On the other side, These pictures are more effective than words because in picture viewers see the crowd and injuries but they are not aware about the situation and reality. Apart from it, we should also be aware from such kind of fake loops. We can avoid sharing such kind of pictures with each other until unless it is an official from any verified site.

In conclusion, although If any tragedy happens news channel or media they have a free will to represent the incident however they want to but we should also be aware from such kind of fake loops.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for an opinion on whether pictures are more effective than words, the response focuses heavily on the ethics of media coverage rather than directly addressing the comparative effectiveness of visual versus textual communication. The position is somewhat unclear, and the arguments are under-developed. The conclusion simply repeats the body paragraph content rather than synthesising the argument. To improve, ensure you fully address the prompt's core question and provide sufficient supporting evidence to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'In conclusion', they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second body paragraph where the connection between the 'crowd and injuries' and the 'reality' of the situation is not well-linked. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'spicy news' and 'fake loops', which are not standard English collocations. The repetition of 'news' and 'pictures' indicates a limited range of synonyms. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions appropriate for a formal essay, while avoiding informal or non-standard terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect punctuation (e.g., 'Last night , I was'), subject-verb agreement errors, and awkward sentence construction, such as 'until unless it is an official from any verified site'. There are also issues with capitalization and article usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure would be highly beneficial.
