Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays it is evident to see the news stories on television as well as in newspapers that often comes with pictures. Some people believes that these pictures are more effectives than reading the whole news. I also agree that pictures in the news are a good way to understand the news.
One reason is that it is easy to understand the news and takes less time than to read the whole news may be on television or in newspaper. Another reason is that, In todays time everyone is busy in their works and get less time to read the news. Moreover, pictures that are accompanied by the news give more clear perspective of news . It give a clear understanding about what happening in the news.
In addition to it, due to technology advancement many people uses apps like twitter and instagram to get the latest news and information around the world. The news that comes on these apps comes with the pictures due to which they find it more effective. For instance, I remember that there was a protest going on in my city, the news of the protest on every newspapers and was really highlighted in the country. So, instead of reading the whole story word by word, I was able to understand the situation of people by looking at pictures provided in the newspapers. Those pictures were giving the exact and full understanding of the protest happening there.
To conclude, the pictures that we often see with news are more effective than words.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that pictures are more effective than words. The ideas are relevant, focusing on time efficiency and the clarity of visual information. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding a protest, the explanation remains quite general. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments with more depth. For instance, you could discuss how images transcend language barriers or provide emotional impact that text sometimes lacks. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully summarize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'One reason is', 'Another reason is', 'Moreover', and 'In addition to it' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to ensure that the argument builds more effectively toward the conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good way', 'clear', and 'news'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'In todays time' (should be 'In today's world') and 'many people uses' (subject-verb agreement error). While you attempt to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'technology advancement' and 'perspective', the range is limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication rather than repeating the same simple descriptors throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues: 'Some people believes' (should be 'believe'), 'pictures... comes' (should be 'come'), and 'It give' (should be 'It gives'). There are also punctuation and article errors, such as 'in every newspapers' (should be 'in every newspaper'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and pluralization rules, and aim to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses.
