Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of images compared to words. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The example provided about 'Mr John' in 1889 is historically confusing and lacks relevance to the core argument about modern media. While a position is stated, the supporting arguments are somewhat superficial and rely on repetitive points about 'understanding' rather than exploring the nuances of visual versus textual communication. To improve, focus on providing more logical, real-world examples and ensuring that the explanation directly supports the thesis throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While cohesive devices like 'To commence' and 'To recapitulate' are used, they feel somewhat mechanical and do not always connect ideas smoothly. The referencing is occasionally confusing, particularly in the second paragraph where the narrative about Mr John lacks clear links to the broader topic. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is frequent repetition of basic terms such as 'understand', 'news', and 'pictures'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'MP4 vision' or 'caption and make perfect MP4 video', which do not accurately reflect standard English usage. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations related to media and communication, while ensuring that the words chosen are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Clear vision is a very important to understand' (article/adjective error), 'as compare to' (preposition error), and 'there were no any images' (redundant negative). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalisation of words like 'Topic' and 'Updated'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score in this category.
