Student answer (Band 6.0)

Newspapers are an old trend to update with recent or current situations happening in our surroundings. In current days, a few individuals think that new stories on TV and newspaper are usually come with pictures, and this is the best way to convey information to people instead of words. However, I believe that words are a more effective way to give information in newspapers and stories. I will discuss both views in the upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, some people think that pictures are more effective than words in newspapers and stories on TV, as they show practical thing which happen in particular situations. To elaborate, there are some news stories related to new shops, any flood happening, or new satellite making, so seeing the picture right next to the text make the individua more clear. For instance, my grandmother does not read much due to illiteracy, but by seeing the pictures, she knows what this specific news is about, as some of the people think that pictures are an effective way in news stories on TV and in newspapers.

From my perspective, I believe that it is more beneficial if theoretical part in news paper or stories in Tv more rather than pictures, as it enhances reading skills. To explain it, if the newspaper and news stories on TV do not come with any graphics, then people put more effort into reading the particular news, which enhances their reading skills. Moreover, without the pictures, people only focus on the wording, which makes their minds more concentrated.

In conclusion, there are some people who think that it is important that newspapers and tv stories come with pictures, as it is a more effective way because people know more about the news clarity where as i believe that newspaper or TV stories without pictures are more beneficial, as people develop their reading skills, which helps in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the effectiveness of pictures and the importance of words. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding your grandmother, the argument for why words are 'more effective' is slightly repetitive, focusing primarily on reading skills rather than the broader communicative power of text. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more distinct and fully explored. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved by considering different contexts, such as the speed of information delivery or the emotional impact of visual media.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'To elaborate', and 'Moreover'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'some people think'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for instance, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'as some of the people think that pictures are an effective way' is redundant and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically builds on the previous one will enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'new shops', 'any flood happening', and 'theoretical part'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'update with recent or current situations' and 'new satellite making'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to media and communication, such as 'visual aids', 'literacy', 'dissemination of information', or 'cognitive engagement'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing and convey your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'are usually come with pictures' (should be 'usually come'), 'make the individua more clear' (should be 'makes the information clearer'), and 'theoretical part in news paper or stories in Tv more rather than pictures'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of subject-verb agreement and sentence construction.
