Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, news from broadcasting and papers had used different approached. Different individuals says that it is more effective to report or read news with some photo relating with it.

In my own opinion, it is very important to used pictures or videos on broadcasting news on television. First, children and adult who are watching the program can easily understand what they are watching due to visual effect. Second, the audience will not get bored because they can see some photos or videos on the television. Lastly, due to thier understanding of the news on broadcast TV, they can share it with others who does not watched the program.

Individuals reading newspaper can easily understand what they are reading if ever in has image attached on it. Next, readers will be more interested on reading the content due to its vibrant or sometimes desirable images. Finally, newspaper that has images on it can be more easily sell and the consumer will choose it over other competence.

I therefore conclude that news that comes from television or newpaper are both beneficial even if they have images or none. As long as the news they serves was the truth and nothing else. As long as it is following the law and guided by the will of god.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the effectiveness of pictures in news, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 216 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and repetitive. While a position is stated, the arguments lack depth and specific examples; for instance, the mention of 'children and adult' or 'vibrant images' is too generic. To improve, you must expand your points with concrete illustrations or personal experiences and ensure the essay meets the length requirement to allow for full development of your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression using transition words like 'First', 'Second', and 'Lastly'. However, the flow is often mechanical, and the connection between sentences is sometimes weak. For example, the transition between the television paragraph and the newspaper paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, the conclusion is somewhat disconnected from the main body, introducing new, irrelevant ideas about the 'will of god' which do not contribute to the coherence of the argument. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'news', 'pictures', and 'understand'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'news from broadcasting and papers had used different approached' (should be 'approaches') and 'more easily sell' (should be 'more easily sold'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations related to media and communication, while paying closer attention to word forms and parts of speech.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Different individuals says', 'who does not watched') and incorrect verb forms ('it is very important to used', 'if ever in has image'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with few successful attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for these recurring errors is essential.
